Barcelona Eye Permanent Rashford Deal, Offer Blaugrana Stars to Slash United's £26m Tab

Barcelona are making their move to secure Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis, and they're willing to sweeten the deal with some heavyweight assets to get it done.

The Catalan club currently holds a €30m (£26m) option to buy the England international following his summer loan switch from Manchester United. President Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have evidently decided Rashford is worth fighting for, and rather than simply activate the clause, they're exploring a more creative route to the negotiating table.

According to reports from Spain, Barcelona are keen to avoid stumping up the full transfer fee and are instead proposing a player-plus-cash arrangement. Ronald Araujo—valued around €40m—tops their wish list, with the club reportedly open to a straight player swap if United bite. They're also prepared to include Marc Casado in any negotiations, a midfielder who has previously caught Old Trafford's attention.

The 28-year-old has vindicated Barcelona's gamble since arriving last summer. With nine goals and nine assists across 31 competitive outings, Rashford has rediscovered his spark in La Liga, playing with the kind of freedom that seemed increasingly distant during his final months at United.

His path to the Nou Camp was well-trodden: falling foul of former Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim, a six-month loan at Aston Villa, and then the chance to reset his career in Spain. The speculation that incoming interim head coach Michael Carrick might reverse the exodus has now been firmly put to bed.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has already drawn a line under Rashford's Old Trafford chapter. Speaking in mid-January before Carrick's appointment, Murphy told BoyleSports: "I don't think Michael Carrick, or whoever gets the job, will be able to influence the club to change their approach on Marcus Rashford. I think he's had his chances and opportunities. Also, the fanbase has generally turned on him a little bit. I think he's too far gone. Even if he doesn't get the Barcelona move, a move somewhere else will benefit him."

Murphy continued: "He looks like he's playing with freedom. I even saw him come off the bench against Real Madrid, and he looked so sharp, expressing himself and appearing like a different player. I think his days at United are over, regardless of who is in charge."

The real question now is whether Barcelona's creative approach to the fee can unlock a permanent deal. United's financial position and Barcelona's wage constraints will likely determine whether this becomes a done deal or merely another subplot in the ongoing Rashford saga.
