United Monitoring Davies as INEOS Eyes Left-Back Options; Malacia Set to Depart

Manchester United are actively considering whether to table a formal bid for Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies this summer, as the club evaluates defensive reinforcements alongside their midfield overhaul.

The Red Devils splurged over £200m on fresh talent last summer, with their primary focus directed at bolstering the attacking department. Given that only four Premier League clubs managed fewer goals than United last season, the club moved to recruit Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko to address their offensive shortcomings.

The midfield will demand significant attention in the coming window, with Casemiro departing imminently and Manuel Ugarte appearing destined for the exit. However, there's scope within the budget to strengthen other areas, and left-back has emerged as a potential target area to provide Luke Shaw with genuine competition.

Bayern Insider sources indicate that United are actively hunting for a new left-back, with Patrick Dorgu positioned as a more offensive-minded alternative. Tyrell Malacia is anticipated to leave the club.

Christian Falk of Sport Bild has provided further insight into United's interest in Davies: "Manchester United are genuinely interested in Alphonso Davies. They were involved in discussions when the question arose about whether he'd commit to a new Bayern contract.

"The club continues to monitor him closely, but he's since penned fresh terms at the Allianz Arena, making a move problematic at present.

"There's debate internally about whether they require a backup option given Davies' recurring injury concerns. Previously, Bayern felt cover wasn't essential as Hiroki Itō can operate on the left. That said, if a suitable offer materialised – and bear in mind Bayern invested substantially in extending Davies – there would be scope for negotiation. What I can confirm is that Manchester United have not yet submitted a concrete proposal. Should one arrive, Bayern would likely give it serious thought, particularly with Davies' ongoing fitness troubles."

The managerial situation remains unresolved, with Michael Carrick's future uncertain, though Wayne Bridge has thrown his weight behind the interim boss. The former Chelsea defender told 10bet: "I always say, why not? What are you going to do – go and get another manager when you don't actually know how it's going to go? There's obviously still a little bit of the season left, but I think the impact he's had since coming in has been positive.

"You look at the way they've been playing since he came in. I feel like he's one of those really intelligent players who gives players confidence to pass and trust themselves, to play in between the lines.

"I always look at it like this – what are you going to do? Go and get a big name, then it goes wrong again and you're paying loads of money to get rid of him. If he's doing a good job, why look elsewhere?"
