Leao Opens Door to Manchester United Exit as Red Devils Weigh Summer Move

Manchester United's impressive second-half resurgence under Michael Carrick—which culminated in a third-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification—has handed the club the financial firepower to make a genuine splash in the summer market. And they're already eyeing potential targets with real intent.

Rafael Leao has handed them a genuine opportunity. The AC Milan winger has publicly declared himself ready for a fresh challenge away from the San Siro, breaking ranks with the Italian giants after several seasons in Serie A.

Speaking to Sport TV Portugal, the Portuguese forward laid his cards on the table: "I'm proud as I made history at AC Milan but I want new chapter. I feel ready to play in another league. I did my best for Milan, but it's time to try another challenge."

The 26-year-old's admission has sent ripples through Europe's elite clubs. United are understood to be among the Premier League sides keen on exploring a deal, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool also tracking developments closely. All four clubs have previously monitored Leao's progress and retain genuine interest in his profile.

Leao has form when it comes to the Old Trafford project. In previous interviews, he's expressed admiration for United's pull, citing his childhood hero Cristiano Ronaldo as a significant draw. "Yeah of course I like Manchester United because my idol is Cristiano Ronaldo, so back then, I used to watch them. I like Arsenal also," he remarked when quizzed on the subject.

Milan's hierarchy remain keen to convince him to stay, with contract extension talks ongoing. However, insider sources suggest the Serie A club would likely accept a departure this summer, with valuations hovering around €50m for a permanent transfer.

United's recruitment plans are ambitious. The club is targeting at least two new midfielders, a left winger, and a left-back as bare minimum requirements, with possibilities of further additions at centre-back and striker depending on summer developments.

Leao's versatility adds to his appeal. While he's featured primarily in a central forward role for Milan this season, he built his reputation operating from the left flank—a position that aligns neatly with United's stated recruitment priorities.

His statistics this term—nine goals and three assists across 29 Serie A appearances—represent solid but unspectacular returns as Milan finished fifth, missing out on European football's premier competition. A move to the Premier League could provide the fresh stimulus both player and club are seeking.
