United Make Moves for Palmer as Chelsea Attacker Grows Restless

Manchester United's summer recruitment plans appear to include a bold swoop for Cole Palmer, with reports suggesting the Red Devils have been approached by representatives working on behalf of the Chelsea attacker.

Palmer's journey since arriving at Stamford Bridge has been nothing short of remarkable. The 23-year-old's £40m switch from Manchester City in 2023 has yielded an impressive 46 goals and 20 assists across 88 Premier League outings, establishing him as one of England's most exciting attacking talents. This season, however, injury has curtailed his impact, limiting him to just 18 league starts.

The chatter around Palmer's future intensified in January when reports suggested he felt unsettled in west London. Speculation even emerged that a return to City under Pep Guardiola might appeal. More recently, however, attention has shifted towards Old Trafford, with claims that the Wythenshawe-born star harbours genuine interest in a switch to United.

United's hierarchy are understood to be seriously considering their options. According to reports, those representing Palmer have been quietly gauging interest from elite sides, with a summer departure increasingly plausible. United themselves have been sounded out and are actively weighing up the prospect of bringing him to Old Trafford as part of their search for a versatile forward.

The financial mountain to climb cannot be ignored. Chelsea are expected to demand in excess of £100m, potentially stretching towards £150m. That asking price represents the principal barrier to any deal materialising, with United's resources being carefully scrutinised.

Sam Allardyce believes the move remains achievable if United can find the funds. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, the former Premier League manager said: "Chelsea will always sell at the right price, so it's whether Manchester United have the money that they'd want for him Cole Palmer. It would be a big signing for United. He's only 23 years old, so they'd get a good seven or eight years from him, maybe more if he looks after himself. He's a particular talent who shone from day one at Chelsea. There has been a bit of a lull because of his injuries, but he'll get back to the level he was at sooner rather than later. He's a tremendous talent, but I do think Chelsea are always in a position to make profit off a player."

Palmer has also been mooted as a potential target for Real Madrid, though former striker Gabby Agbonlahor expressed scepticism about such a move. Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor suggested the Spanish giants already possess sufficient attacking depth, pointing to the presence of Arda Guler and Brahim Diaz in similar positions.

Agbonlahor added: "How about, just stay at Chelsea, get your head down and get your form back. How about that? When you're not performing and not playing to your levels, then you want to leave? That's not an option for me."
