Maguire Signs Fresh Terms as Man Utd Lock Down Defender on New Deal

Harry Maguire is set to commit his future to Manchester United, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirming the centre-back will put pen to paper on a contract extension through to June 2027.

The England international has become central to United's resurgence under Michael Carrick, who took the reins after Ruben Amorim's sacking in January. A verbal agreement is already in place between the defender and the club, with the formal signing expected to be completed before the season concludes.

The new terms also include a club option to extend Maguire's stay until June 2028, should United wish to activate it.

Maguire's rehabilitation at Old Trafford represents quite the turnaround from the Amorim era, when his departure on a free transfer seemed inevitable. Under Carrick's stewardship, however, the 30-year-old has rediscovered his best form, playing a starring role in United's push for Champions League qualification. The Red Devils have posted seven wins, two draws and a single defeat from Carrick's opening ten matches, lifting them into third place and within touching distance of the top four.

Meanwhile, United continue to cast their nets wide in the transfer market. Reports suggest they are eyeing Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka as a potential midfield reinforcement, with Arsenal also circling the German international.

According to analyst Pete O'Rourke, United could hold an advantage in the race for Goretzka's signature. Whilst Arsenal would offer Goretzka the prospect of competing alongside Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Martin Odegaard at the Emirates, Old Trafford presents a clearer pathway into the starting XI.

"The former Schalke man would surely fancy his chances of pushing ahead of Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo in the pecking order, with places set to be up for grabs at the base of the midfield," O'Rourke explained, noting that the midfield pecking order at United remains more fluid than at their North London rivals.
