Hojlund Set for Permanent Napoli Switch as United Eye Rogers for Fernandes Succession Plan

Rasmus Hojlund looks set to become Napoli's permanent signing this summer after agreeing an improved contract with the Serie A outfit, a move that will bolster Manchester United's transfer kitty as they plot an overhaul of their midfield.

The Danish striker departed Old Trafford on loan last summer with an obligation to buy triggered upon Champions League qualification, priced at £38m. After a difficult 2024-25 campaign at United where his form deserted him entirely, Hojlund has rediscovered his touch in Naples.

Across 41 appearances this term, the 23-year-old has plundered 14 goals and chipped in with six assists—a marked improvement that has convinced Napoli to make his stay permanent. Sporting director Giovanni Manna has already confirmed the club's intention to activate the purchase clause.

"There are no doubts. Rasmus will stay here," Manna stated. "We have an obligation to buy from Manchester United, in case of Champions League access, but he is in our plans regardless of this condition."

The striker has reportedly already penned a fresh long-term agreement with the Italians, sweetening the deal considerably from his original terms.

With Hojlund's exit now certain, United will recoup funds to address their pressing midfield concerns. The hierarchy has identified at least two new midfielders as essential additions for the summer window, with talk of recruiting an attacking midfielder to deputise for—or potentially replace—captain Bruno Fernandes.

That prospect has become considerably more realistic given reports that Fernandes' release clause, valued at €65 million, could become active imminently. United remain keen to retain their Portuguese skipper, though his future hangs in the balance should any suitor trigger the exit mechanism.

Enter Morgan Rogers. The Aston Villa winger has emerged as United's leading target to fill any void left by Fernandes, having impressed considerably throughout the Premier League season. However, acquiring the England international will prove no straightforward matter, with Villa demanding in the region of £100 million for their prized asset.

Nevertheless, United are understood to be preparing a summer offensive for Rogers, with the final weeks of July expected to prove decisive in how the transfer saga unfolds—both for Fernandes and their pursuit of Villa's standout performer.
