Atletico Madrid and PSG Circle as Greenwood's Marseille Departure Looms

Two European heavyweights are sharpening their pencils over Mason Greenwood as the Marseille winger's future looks increasingly uncertain heading into the transfer window.

The 24-year-old, who departed Manchester United permanently in summer 2024 for roughly £26m, has become a man in demand despite recent turbulence at the Ligue 1 outfit. Having impressed during a loan spell at Getafe the previous season with 14 goal contributions across 33 appearances, Greenwood established himself as a key player at the Stade Vélodrome, notching 47 goals and 16 assists in 78 outings.

Yet cracks have emerged of late. A recent 1-1 stalemate against OGC Nice saw Greenwood left on the bench, with reports subsequently surfacing that he'd been disciplined following internal friction at the club.

That setback hasn't dampened the interest circling him, though. Atletico Madrid have reportedly tabled their opening gambit—a €60m package (£52m)—which would trigger United's 50% sell-on clause negotiated into the original transfer deal, handing the Old Trafford club a tidy £26m cheque.

The plot thickens considerably with PSG's involvement. Luis Enrique has personally requested the Paris outfit pursue Greenwood, positioning themselves as serious contenders in what could shape up as a proper bidding war. Marseille, acutely aware of their asset's pulling power, are unlikely to accept Atletico's opening offer without squeezing every last euro from the competition.

United's financial prospects are brightening further with potential departures of Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, and Manuel Ugarte also on the cards. Combined with Champions League qualification secured, the Red Devils appear well-positioned to bankroll four significant summer additions.
