Grealish Given City Exit Route as Everton Eye Permanent Deal

Manchester City have given Jack Grealish the thumbs-up to explore his options elsewhere this summer, with the 30-year-old free to pursue fresh pastures after an injury-plagued loan spell at Everton.

The former £100m signing arrived at the Etihad as one of English football's most eye-catching acquisitions, but has now been told he can seek a new home. His time on Merseyside proved something of a renaissance, though a stress fracture to his foot put paid to any momentum he'd built up.

Despite the setback, Grealish's performances for the Toffees have shifted the narrative around his future entirely. The Merseysiders find themselves in prime position to land him permanently, should City sanction a departure, with the player himself keen on remaining at Goodison Park.

According to Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, while Premier League rivals and European outfits are keeping tabs on the situation, Everton hold the strongest hand. "I think you probably have to say that Everton are in pole position to sign Grealish if he does end up leaving Man City," O'Rourke explained on the Transfer Insider podcast.

Grealish's recovery has impressed observers. Across 20 Premier League appearances for Everton, he registered two goals and six assists—a return that vindicated the loan move. Working under David Moyes, he's rediscovered the form that made him such a prized asset.

The stumbling block? His contract situation. With just one year remaining on his City deal and wages reportedly hovering around £500,000 weekly, a permanent transfer represents a financial minefield. A renewed loan arrangement, potentially with City continuing to subsidise his salary, appears far more workable.

Grealish underwent surgery on his foot injury and has confirmed his campaign is finished. From his hospital bed, he reflected on his Everton experience: "Didn't want the season to end like this but that's football, gutted. Surgery done and now all focus on getting back fit. I know for sure I will come back fitter, stronger and better than before. The support I've had since coming to this unbelievable club has meant the world to me. The staff, my team-mates and especially the fans have been incredible and I absolutely love representing this club."
