Man City Make Formal €150m Offer for Vinicius Jr as Real Madrid Eye Williams and Fernandez

Manchester City have emerged as frontrunners in the race to land Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior, with claims that the Premier League outfit have already submitted a formal offer worth around €150 million.

The Brazilian winger's future at the Bernabéu has become increasingly uncertain following a turbulent relationship with former manager Xabi Alonso. Tensions came to a boil during October's El Clasico defeat to Barcelona, when Vinicius Jr made his frustrations known as he left the pitch, declaring: "Me? Coach? Coach, me? It's always me. I'm leaving the team. It's better I leave." Though he subsequently apologised, the damage had been done.

Alonso's sacking last week has only intensified speculation, with Álvaro Arbeloa now in temporary charge and Jürgen Klopp rumoured to be in line for the summer appointment.

The core issue driving the forward's discontent appears to be financial. Vinicius Jr has been pushing for wage parity with Kylian Mbappé, and with contract extension negotiations stalling, Real Madrid have begun entertaining offers. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported in November that the club had set a €150 million asking price after talks broke down entirely, with sources close to the dressing room describing it as "very difficult to imagine Vinícius still at Madrid next season."

Spanish outlet Fichajes now claims City are "the clear favourites to secure the deal," having tabled their €150 million proposal. The report suggests Real Madrid are increasingly resigned to his departure, particularly given that Vinicius will enter the summer with just twelve months remaining on his current deal and no appetite to extend.

From Madrid's perspective, offloading a player of his calibre would paradoxically strengthen their position. The financial windfall would allow them to restructure the squad, address key weaknesses, and defuse what has become an unsustainable internal situation.

Should the deal materialise, Real Madrid are eyeing a two-pronged recruitment strategy. Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams is being considered as a direct replacement on the wing, whilst they would also use the funds to pursue Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Vinicius's reluctance to commit to a new contract was fundamentally linked to his fractious relationship with Alonso. "If Vinicius Junior's renewal was paused, it's also because the relationship with Xabi Alonso wasn't spectacular," Romano explained. "The club has always communicated the intention to renew Vini, and he, in the last 3-4 months, has always communicated the intention to wait a bit and see what happened with the coach situation."

With Alonso now departed, Romano believes the landscape has shifted considerably. "Vini wants to be an important player; that's the issue," he noted. "I think it was paused between late September and October because the player wasn't happy with not feeling so important. Now there's a new coach, and surely without Xabi Alonso it will be less complicated."

Whether Arbeloa's arrival proves sufficient to convince Vinicius to stay remains to be seen, but City's formal approach suggests they're not taking any chances.
