Barcelona Close on Bernardo Silva as Man City Faces Summer Exodus

Manchester City face a significant reshaping of their squad this summer, with Bernardo Silva poised to depart on a free transfer as his contract expires at the Etihad.

The 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been instrumental throughout Pep Guardiola's trophy-winning tenure, forging a crucial partnership with Rodri that has underpinned the club's success this season. Yet after months of speculation, Silva's exit is now confirmed, marking the end of an era for one of City's finest-ever performers.

He will not be leaving alone. Defender John Stones is also heading for the exit, departing on free terms, whilst a third departure has now been identified. Swiss centre-back Manuel Akanji, currently on loan at Inter Milan, will complete a permanent move to the Serie A leaders as Inter trigger their €15 million buy option clause. The deal is already settled with the player, with Akanji having proven a vital figure in Inter's title push this season.

Barcelona's Bid for Silva

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have both been tracking Silva's situation, but the Catalan giants appear to have stolen a march. Agent Jorge Mendes has worked to bring the two clubs together, and according to reports from Spain, Hansi Flick's side have now "finalised an agreement" on the sporting side of the deal.

The sticking point, however, is financial. Barcelona's well-documented money troubles mean they must devise creative solutions to make the move work. Silva has enjoyed a world-class salary at City—hardly something the club can easily replicate given their current predicament.

The expectation is that Mendes will formally notify City of Barcelona's intentions, but until Barcelona can unlock the necessary funds, the deal remains in limbo. Whether Flick's side can navigate their financial constraints to land one of Europe's finest midfielders remains the key question.
