Manchester City have begun assembling an offer for Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior as the Brazilian's contract situation at the Bernabéu remains unresolved, according to reports emerging from Spain.

The 25-year-old has delivered the goods again this season, clocking up 12 goals and nine assists across 36 appearances in all competitions. Recent form has been particularly sharp—five goals in his last four matches underline his continued importance to Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Yet there's a growing sense that Vinicius could be on the move. His contract expires in the summer of 2027, and negotiations over a fresh deal have stalled. The crux of the issue: the winger wants wage parity with Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid's top earner. The club, unsurprisingly, has dug in.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, City have already made contact with Vinicius's representatives. The thinking appears straightforward—either secure him on a free transfer in 2027, or force a cut-price deal in 2026 before his contract enters its final stretch.

Real Madrid are keen to accelerate matters. They recognise the danger of allowing Vinicius to drift into the final two years of his deal without resolution, risking the possibility of losing him for nothing. The La Liga outfit still view him as central to their project, and he remains content at the club. Yet without a satisfactory financial package, his head could be turned.

Here's where it gets interesting: Guardiola's future at City may be a factor. The report suggests the manager's current tactical approach doesn't align with how Vinicius operates. Should Guardiola depart, City's entire project could shift—potentially making a move for the Brazilian far more appealing.

There's also a managerial subplot at the Bernabéu. Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Vinicius's renewal negotiations were hampered by his relationship with former boss Xabi Alonso, who was sacked earlier this season. With Alonso gone, Romano reckons the path to a new contract is clearer.

"If Vinicius Junior's renewal was paused, it's also because the relationship with Xabi Alonso wasn't spectacular," Romano explained in January. "The club has always communicated the intention to renew Vini, and he has always communicated the intention to wait and see what happened with the coach situation."

The player's demands are rooted in status rather than mere greed. He wants assurances he'll remain a central figure in Real Madrid's plans. That uncertainty under Alonso appears to have created the pause in talks.

"Vini wants to be an important player; that's the issue," Romano added. "With Xabi Alonso it was going to be complicated, but now there's a new coach, and surely without him it will be less complicated."
