Anderson, who is primed to feature prominently for England at the upcoming World Cup, has established himself among the division's elite defensive midfielders. Nottingham Forest are holding firm on their valuation, with reports suggesting they want £125m for the 24-year-old, though they may need to soften their demands unless they secure top-flight survival.

Sky Sports reporting indicates City have stolen a march on rivals Manchester United and Arsenal in the pursuit of Anderson, with well-positioned sources increasingly confident the midfielder is bound for the Etihad. The timing of any deal remains uncertain—negotiations could conclude before or after the World Cup, where Anderson is expected to play a significant role under Thomas Tuchel's England setup.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed last month that City are already deep in dialogue over the midfielder's potential arrival.
