According to the report, Guardiola is "freeing himself from City" this summer and represents the "only name" that truly matters for the Italian Football Federation, with the outlet suggesting that bringing in a foreign manager may be the federation's only viable path forward. The piece further notes that financial backing from sponsors could facilitate such a move, and that Guardiola faces no monetary concerns that would prevent him from accepting the role.

This development comes at an interesting juncture for City, who have shown signs of revitalisation in recent weeks. Their Carabao Cup triumph over Arsenal before the international break, followed by an emphatic 4-0 demolition of Liverpool in the FA Cup, suggests Guardiola's men may yet salvage their campaign with a strong finish. They currently trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by nine points, though they do possess a game in hand and will face the Gunners at the Etihad later this month.

Recent reports linking Maresca with Tottenham have been disputed by Romano, who insists the Leicester City boss remains City's leading option. "Pep is under contract until 2027, and nothing has been decided, but City are preparing for the future," Romano noted. "At this stage, there is nothing advanced between Maresca and Tottenham."
