Guardiola Ready to Let Rodri Leave for Real Madrid in Summer Swap Deal

Manchester City's transfer strategy is already shifting toward the summer window, with Pep Guardiola seemingly prepared to part with one of his biggest stars.

Spanish reports suggest the City manager has accepted that Rodri will depart for Real Madrid when the transfer window reopens, with the midfielder viewed as expendable rather than irreplaceable. The Spain international, who suffered a significant injury last season, is understood to be keen on a return to La Liga, and the feeling appears mutual from the Bernabéu.

The stumbling block remains financial. Real Madrid are reluctant to meet City's valuation for a player of Rodri's calibre, making a straight cash deal unlikely. Instead, a swap arrangement could solve the puzzle, with Real Madrid potentially offering multiple players as part of the transaction.

Guardiola is known to be an admirer of Rodrygo, the Brazilian winger, and would welcome the opportunity to add him to his squad. Federio Valverde, the Uruguayan midfielder who has been courted by Manchester United, could also feature in negotiations as a potential replacement for Rodri's midfield duties.

The developments come as Fabrizio Romano confirmed on DAZN Futbol that Bernardo Silva will be moving on from the Etihad in the summer. Despite Guardiola's comments in November—when he suggested Silva would decide his own future after nine years at the club—the Portuguese midfielder appears destined for pastures new.

City's winter business was relatively quiet despite early investment. Marc Guehi arrived from Crystal Palace and Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, but Guardiola resisted further additions ahead of the February deadline.
