RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande finds himself at a crossroads this summer, with Liverpool circling in their hunt for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who confirmed his departure last season. The Merseysiders have already bolstered their attacking ranks with Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but that hasn't dampened their appetite for another wide talent.

Fresh reports from Tuesday suggest the Reds have struck an agreement with Diomande, leaving only the matter of convincing Leipzig to part with their prized asset at the right price.

However, German football legend Stefan Freund has publicly counselled the winger against the move. Speaking to Sport Bild, Freund outlined a compelling case for patience, particularly in light of Liverpool's ambitious summer signings—notably Florian Wirtz—who arrived at a supposed champion and faced immediate title-winning expectations.

"He should stay in Leipzig for another year," Freund stated. "If he maintains his excellent form next season, he can still move to a big club. Because the next move will bring pressure – much more pressure than he's faced so far. He can afford to have the odd bad game in Leipzig. If he leaves now, and if it's not the right club, he'll take a step back."

Freund went on to highlight the stark differences between German and English football. "Physically, he should be able to manage it," he continued. "But take Florian Wirtz as an example: he's joined the reigning champion and was expected to win the title straight away. The pressure on him is immense. In the Premier League, he's up against better full backs than in the Bundesliga. It's a different kettle of fish – it's a real battle there."

Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Leipzig themselves are desperate to keep their young star. The German club are pushing Diomande to sign fresh terms, accept an improved salary package, and commit to another season whilst they secure Champions League football. In exchange, they're offering him a release clause that would allow him to choose his next destination in summer 2027.

"They are trying to tell Diomande, they are trying to tell his agents: stay one more season here at RB Leipzig, sign a new contract, get a very good salary, put a release clause, and in summer 2027 you go wherever you want," Romano explained. "You can pick the new club, they don't have to reach out to us as Leipzig, they pay the clause and you decide the best project, the best contract, whatever."

Yet the player himself appears genuinely tempted by the prospect of an immediate exit. Despite Leipzig's Champions League credentials, Diomande is seriously considering his options and weighing up the possibility of leaving this summer without delay.
