Liverpool Eyes Jarrod Bowen Gambit as Reds Weigh Departure from Transfer Blueprint

Liverpool are contemplating an ambitious summer raid for West Ham's Jarrod Bowen, a prospect that would represent a notable departure from the club's tried-and-tested transfer approach.

The 29-year-old winger has occupied space in the Reds' thinking for some time, with former boss Jurgen Klopp publicly identifying him as his favourite player operating outside Anfield back in December 2023. West Ham subsequently moved to secure their star asset on a seven-year deal that would keep him at the London Stadium until 2030.

That contract's security now appears vulnerable. West Ham's precarious league position—sitting just two points clear of the drop with five games to play following Monday's goalless stalemate at Crystal Palace—raises the prospect of top-flight football evaporating. Should relegation materialise, the entire calculus shifts dramatically.

Reports suggest Fenway Sports Group are actively "considering" a summer approach for Bowen, with such a bid described as entirely plausible. The England international enjoys admiration within Anfield's corridors, and circumstances could yet conspire to make this transfer feasible.

Financially, West Ham have previously demanded £50m, though that valuation would inevitably crumble should they drop into the Championship. Liverpool's interest makes tactical sense as a potential short-term solution to Mohamed Salah's future, buying time to identify his long-term successor.

The Strategy Shift

Ordinarily, FSG operate within strict parameters: targeting players aged 26 or under to maximise resale prospects. Bowen's 29 years represent a clear deviation from this blueprint. Yet the market opportunity—particularly if West Ham's desperation deepens—appears sufficiently compelling to justify the exception.

Michael Olise remains Liverpool's aspirational target, though Bayern Munich's grip appears unshakeable. Yan Diomande has emerged as the more realistic option for the right flank, with the RB Leipzig winger's 15 goals and nine assists across 42 appearances this season catching attention. The 19-year-old's €100m (£87m) asking price has positioned Liverpool ahead of Manchester United in the queue.

Brighton's Yankuba Minteh represents another consideration, having impressed under Arne Slot at Feyenoord before his summer move.
