Terry Fires Back at Pennant: Get Your Facts Straight on Van Dijk Debate

Chelsea's legendary defender John Terry has taken aim at former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant for muddying the waters with dodgy facts during a lively talkSPORT discussion about the Premier League's greatest centre-back.

"When you're giving your opinion on the radio, you have to get the stats right," Terry said. "There's only one person who has got the most goals as a defender in Premier League history and that's me. I also have the most clean sheets in history."

He then addressed the age comparison head-on. During the 2014/15 season at 34, Terry played every minute of Chelsea's title-winning campaign under José Mourinho.

"At that age, I was winning Premier Leagues and playing every minute of every game," he stressed. "If you're comparing myself and Virgil, then I have more trophies than him as well."

Terry wrapped up by acknowledging the debate is fair game and something to be proud of, but left it to the fans to settle the argument themselves – though his statistical counter-punch made his own position pretty clear.
