Liverpool Weighing Up Mac Allister Sale as Seven Reds Face Summer Departures

Liverpool are mulling over the prospect of cashing in on midfielder Alexis Mac Allister during the upcoming transfer window, according to reports emerging from Merseyside.

The Anfield club have endured a disappointing campaign in the Premier League following their title triumph under Arne Slot during the 2024/25 season. Having invested over £400m on fresh recruits last summer—bringing in the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz—many of the new arrivals have struggled to find their feet on Merseyside.

Yet the season's most glaring issue has been the regression of previously dependable performers. Mac Allister, in particular, has fallen well short of his earlier standards. The Argentina international earned a spot in the Premier League Team of the Season last term, but this campaign has told a markedly different story.

Frank Leboeuf, the Chelsea icon, voiced his frustrations with the midfielder following Liverpool's February victory over Nottingham Forest. "Sometimes life is not fair," Leboeuf remarked, "and when you see how horrendous some players have been. I highly rank the player I'm going to mention, Mac Allister. I think he is a world-class player and a World Cup champion. Since he has been at Liverpool, he has been a very influential player but [Sunday] was the worst game I've ever seen Mac Allister play. But he scored the goal and that, for me, is what football is not fair."

Football Insider now claims the Reds are 'tempted' to exploit Mac Allister's marketability in the summer window, with Real Madrid reportedly among the interested parties. The South American has become a 'saleable asset' and could be 'sacrificed' as part of a broader squad reconstruction.

Mac Allister stands to be one of seven Anfield casualties this summer. Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are both departing on free transfers when their contracts expire, whilst Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott are also tipped to leave.

On the contract front, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided updates on two key Reds. Ibrahima Konate's negotiations are in their closing stages, with the defender having publicly confirmed an agreement is within touching distance. "The salary structure is almost agreed," Romano explained, "so in terms of numbers, both the player and the club are aligned. What remains to be clarified are two key points: the length of the contract, which is still under discussion but not expected to be a dealbreaker, and the bonuses on top of the salary, including how they will be structured and activated within the new deal."

Konate's openness on the matter represents a positive signal for Liverpool, particularly following the dramatic Merseyside derby victory against Everton.

Dominik Szoboszlai's situation paints a different picture. The Hungarian has indicated that substantive progress on fresh terms remains elusive, though he has reiterated his contentment at the club with his current deal running until 2028. Romano confirmed discussions are ongoing but have yet to reach an advanced stage. "They are not collapsed, nor are they at an advanced stage yet," he said. "The discussions are positive, and there is no significant gap between the parties, but more work is required before reaching the final stages."
