Liverpool Officially Bid for RB Leipzig's Diomande as Summer Window Heats Up

The Reds have finally tabled their opening bid for RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, bringing months of speculation into the realm of concrete action this summer.

Fresh managerial faces are now in place at Anfield following the appointment of Andoni Iraola last week, with Arne Slot's tenure ending in May despite delivering a Premier League title in his debut campaign.

With Mohamed Salah heading for the exit and Cody Gakpo struggling for form, Liverpool's hierarchy has identified winger recruitment as a priority for the coming transfer window. Diomande has emerged as their prime target, despite competition from Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.

David Ornstein reported earlier this week that Liverpool have established contact with the German club, positioning themselves as the frontrunners in negotiations. However, RB Leipzig are holding firm in their valuation—Ornstein indicated that any serious suitor would need to stump up over €130million (£112.4m, $151.2m) to prise the Ivorian away.

Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano suggested Liverpool are throwing considerable financial muscle at the challenge. Speaking on his Here We Go Podcast, Romano described Diomande as "probably one of the most exciting and electrifying wingers on the market" and noted that finding young talent with his combination of attributes—pace, one-on-one prowess, goal-scoring threat, and creativity—remains exceptionally rare.

"Liverpool are really pushing and really insisting to make it happen," Romano stated. "For Liverpool, he's a top, top priority. They are offering important money to the player to get it done."

An X account comprising five elite reporters has now claimed Liverpool have formally lodged their bid, suggesting mainstream coverage will follow imminently as the saga develops.

PSG remain Liverpool's chief rivals for the winger's signature. In an interview with L'Equipe, Diomande spoke warmly of the Parisian giants, revealing his long-standing admiration for the club.

"Paris Saint-Germain is a team I've loved since I was a child," he explained. "My father supports Paris Saint-Germain, and it's a team I admire as a football fan. It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs."

He did, however, acknowledge the broader picture remains unsettled, suggesting such decisions ultimately rest with the clubs themselves once his focus shifts beyond international commitments.
