Inter Milan Confirms Pursuit of Liverpool Midfielder Curtis Jones

Inter Milan have come clean about their summer interest in Curtis Jones, with sporting director Piero Ausilio confirming the Serie A outfit remain locked in negotiations with Liverpool over the midfielder's potential departure from Anfield.

The 25-year-old has been a fixture in the Reds' squad since emerging from the academy at the end of the 2019/2020 campaign, racking up 228 appearances whilst contributing 22 goals and 25 assists. Yet regular first-team football has proven elusive under Arne Slot, leaving Jones increasingly restless about his prospects at the club.

A move to the San Siro captured his imagination back in January, and that attraction shows no signs of waning despite recent managerial upheaval at Anfield—Slot's exit has now seen Andoni Iraola take the reins.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano laid bare the financial sticking point on Saturday, revealing a considerable chasm between what the two clubs are willing to accept. Inter are pitching around €20 million (£17.3m), while Liverpool are holding firm for north of €30 million (£25.9m), potentially sweetened with add-ons and a percentage of any future sale.

"Inter are very interested in Curtis Jones. Inter are talking to Liverpool," Romano explained on his YouTube channel. "Inter are starting around €20m, Liverpool want more than €30m, maybe including a sell-on clause and bonuses. So there's still a big gap between Inter and Liverpool, but the deal is on. He is keen on the move."

Despite the valuation gulf, Ausilio refused to play coy when quizzed on Inter's summer strategy, stating: "Curtis Jones, we are paying attention to him. We didn't hide. We understand what the developments will be."

Jones has been doing his homework on Italian life, reportedly quizzing Inter winger Federico Chiesa about settling in the country. Chiesa, himself a potential summer departure from Anfield, gave his Liverpool teammate a glowing reference.

"Jones just asked me what life is like in Italy," Chiesa revealed. "I told him it's great and the weather is better than Liverpool, which, aside from that, is a special place. Jones is really strong technically. Inter are right to think about him."

Chiesa's own future remains uncertain. The Italian winger has endured a frustrating spell on Merseyside, with limited opportunities since the start of 2026 compounding an already difficult first season. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, he made his position crystal clear.

"I've played very little since the start of 2026," Chiesa said. "I have a great relationship with Liverpool. In January, the club and Slot told me I couldn't leave, they needed me, partly for numerical reasons. We were in a tight spot. I understood the situation and I was left smiling. Liverpool is always talked about, last year they helped me win the Premier League."

The 26-year-old acknowledged that Liverpool's board had explored options for him previously, though a proposed Juventus switch fell through. Now, with a fresh managerial regime in place, he's made it abundantly clear he's open to fresh surroundings.

"I repeat… I want to play," Chiesa insisted. "If I don't find consistency in the Premier League, I'll have to look elsewhere. I barely played in my first year at Liverpool, and in the last season, very little. I'll go on a training camp in the US, then I'll talk to the club and the new manager, Iraola, and we'll see. I'm open to anything, the important thing is to play. I'm not so presumptuous as to say: I have to be a starter. I'm ready to fight for a place, anywhere."
