A reliable social media account comprising five prominent reporters has since claimed Slot has explicitly demanded two signings, stating the manager believes the squad is simply too thin and that he's being left high and dry.

On the pitch at least, there were more encouraging signs. Liverpool dispatched Newcastle United 4-1 on Saturday to climb fifth in the table, though Manchester United could leapfrog them if they beat Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday. It marked a first Premier League comeback victory since April, a statistic that prompted Slot to reflect on his side's character.

"I think so many times we've come back from going behind and so many times we showed mentality, but unfortunately – like last week – we conceded in the end," Slot told reporters. "So, I think not only coming back from [going behind] and winning it, I think it's the whole way we won it. The way we defended in our box, the desire we had to attack the other box."

The manager highlighted a sluggish opening thirty minutes before his team found their rhythm.
