Salah Calls Time on Liverpool: "It's Time to Go" as Reds' Struggles Seal Egyptian's Exit

Mohamed Salah has opened up about his reasons for ending his Liverpool chapter, confirming that the Reds' troubled season proved to be the decisive factor in his choice to move on this summer.

The Egyptian winger, widely considered among the greatest forwards in Liverpool's modern history, will leave Anfield as a free agent after declining to renew beyond his current deal. His departure comes after a campaign that saw both his individual form dip and his relationship with manager Arne Slot deteriorate amid the club's wider struggles.

Speaking to Steven Gerrard for TNT Sports, Salah was candid about how circumstances at Merseyside made the exit feel inevitable. "I feel to go through the season this is the right thing to do now, and I have peace with it," he explained. "The season was tough for all of us. Everything that is going on this season makes me like 'No, it's time to go', so I'm happy."

The 32-year-old had enjoyed one of his finest individual campaigns last term, spearheading Liverpool's 20th Premier League crown, which earned him a fresh two-year contract extension through 2027. Yet this season's dramatic reversal of fortune appears to have shifted his perspective entirely.

Salah acknowledged Gerrard's earlier public advice about managing his departure with dignity, noting that the legendary midfielder's counsel resonated with him. "I'm glad that I'm leaving now through a big door as that was something you mentioned to me – 'leave on your own terms' – and I still remember those words," Salah said.

With his next move still to be determined, the forward insists he remains in good shape physically despite the gruelling campaign. "Honestly I feel I have a lot to give: physically I feel very good, I played many games this season," he stated. "I didn't decide yet what I'm going to do, to be fair, I have a lot of options which are good options."

Casting his mind back to Liverpool's golden era under Jurgen Klopp—when consecutive Champions League and Premier League triumphs were secured—Salah reflected on the collective mindset that drove those successes. He highlighted how squad unity and unwavering commitment to a shared mission defined that period.

"Every player had the same goal, no playing around, no heroes, everybody knows what they do and if you don't do it right the other one is going to really go for you to do it right," Salah recalled. "We had that so much in the last 10 years."

Yet he expressed concern about Liverpool's trajectory under new management, particularly given the considerable turnover in personnel over recent seasons. "Now we change a lot of players and the bond of the team is changing so I really hope the guys hold it together and have that for the future," he concluded.
