Dimarco emerges as Liverpool's prime target to fill Robertson void as Scot addresses Spurs speculation

Liverpool have identified Inter Milan's Federico Dimarco as their leading candidate to replace Andy Robertson in the summer, with reports suggesting the Italian left-back fits the profile of what the Reds are seeking.

Robertson's position at Anfield has shifted considerably since the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth last summer in a £40m move. The Scotland captain finds himself further down the pecking order and is set to depart when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The veteran defender faced persistent speculation over a potential Tottenham switch during January, but he has now broken his silence on those advances. Speaking to reporters, Robertson confirmed that while talks took place between the clubs, his decision was always clear-cut.

"There was obviously interest," Robertson explained. "There were discussions had with both sets of clubs. But the decision was that I wanted to stay."

The 31-year-old stressed his unwavering focus remained on Liverpool's cause throughout the January window, dismissing any notion that the transfer chatter had distracted him from his duties.

"I was never not committed," he continued. "I've been committed to Liverpool for the last eight and a half or nine years now and I'll be committed until I'm no longer needed. That's always been my mindset. This club has given me everything and I've given this club everything."

Robertson acknowledged the behind-the-scenes activity but insisted his concentration never wavered on the pitch or in training. "My focus never came off trying to help the lads on the pitch and in training. Whatever was happening behind the scenes happened, and all I can say is that I kept focusing on football."

Whether Robertson would have entertained a move to Tottenham remains academic, particularly given their current Premier League standing and genuine relegation concerns.

Turning attention to his successor, Spanish reports claim Liverpool have already zeroed in on Dimarco as the ideal candidate. The Inter full-back possesses the attacking prowess the Reds value, combining solid crossing ability with a keen eye for joining offensive moves—qualities that suit Premier League demands.

However, Inter are not about to roll over. The Serie A club are actively negotiating fresh terms with Dimarco to fend off interest from across Europe, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid all having been linked with the 26-year-old in recent months.

Once Robertson's exit is confirmed, Liverpool are expected to make a concerted push to prise Dimarco away from the San Siro, banking on their Premier League appeal and project to land one of Europe's most promising full-backs.
