Liverpool Close In on Diomande as Salah's Replacement

Mohamed Salah's glittering Liverpool chapter draws to a close this summer, and the Reds have been nothing if not thorough in their search for his successor. Now, fresh reports suggest they've made significant headway on one of their primary targets.

The Merseyside outfit have hammered out a personal terms agreement with Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger currently tearing up the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. The versatile right-footer has reportedly given his blessing to the prospect of a Premier League move and becoming Liverpool's new attacking spearhead.

What remains, however, is the small matter of convincing Leipzig to let him go. The German club hold all the cards here—there's no release clause in Diomande's contract, and he's tied down until 2030. They've set their asking price at €100m, a figure that's already climbing given his scintillating form.

That valuation would make Diomande Liverpool's third-most expensive arrival ever, behind Alexander Isak (£125m) and Florian Wirtz (£116m). For most clubs, such a sum would be prohibitive. Liverpool, it seems, are not most clubs.

Sources indicate the Anfield hierarchy remain undeterred by the nine-figure price tag and are preparing a substantial offer to force Leipzig's hand. Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg has already confirmed Diomande sits high on Liverpool's wishlist, and Spanish reports have gone further, labelling him the club's "chosen one."

Leipzig aren't throwing in the towel just yet. The Bundesliga side are hoping to persuade the teenager to stay for at least another season, though they're under no illusions about the difficulty of that task. Club reporter Philipp Hinze recently outlined their position: they want to keep their prized asset but acknowledge it will be extremely tough, and they're bracing for substantial bids. The hefty asking price, they hope, might scare off one or two interested parties.

It won't be Liverpool, though. With personal terms now settled, the Reds are edging ever closer to landing Salah's successor.
