Liverpool Land Diomande Agreement as PSG Bow Out of Transfer Battle

Liverpool have secured an agreement with Yan Diomande ahead of his expected summer switch to Anfield, with PSG having abandoned their interest in the RB Leipzig winger.
The move follows Mohamed Salah's departure from Merseyside this weekend, prompting Fenway Sports Group to accelerate their efforts to land their long-standing primary target. Diomande has been Liverpool's top choice to fill the void left by the Egyptian, and the Reds have already tabled an opening offer to the Bundesliga club.
Leipzig rejected that initial bid, but Liverpool's negotiating position has strengthened considerably following reports from French media outlets. The 19-year-old has signalled his willingness to make the switch to England, and personal terms with the player's representatives are now locked in.
PSG's withdrawal from the race represents a significant development. The Ligue 1 and Champions League holders consulted extensively on the deal but ultimately concluded that Leipzig's asking price was simply too steep. Luis Campos and his recruitment team opted against entering a bidding war, with Diomande's valuation having climbed substantially.
The sticking point now remains financial. Leipzig are holding firm at £128m, whilst Liverpool's initial proposal came in at £90m. Should the Merseyside outfit meet the German club's demands, Diomande would shatter the Premier League's transfer record. Alexander Isak currently holds that distinction following his £125m move from Newcastle to Liverpool in summer 2025.
The teenager has been outstanding for the Ivory Coast during the ongoing 2026 World Cup, delivering a particularly impressive performance against Germany. For a player with just one Bundesliga season under his belt, the fee under discussion represents a considerable gamble—though one Liverpool appear willing to take.
