Dugarry Backs PSG to Dismantle Struggling Liverpool in Champions League Showdown

Christophe Dugarry has little doubt about how Wednesday night's Champions League quarter-final will unfold, with the France legend tipping Paris Saint-Germain to deliver a thorough beating to Liverpool at the Parc des Princes.

The Reds arrive in the French capital in decidedly choppy waters. Arne Slot's men have tumbled from Premier League champions to fifth place this season, and a 4-0 hammering by Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final has left them with the European competition as their sole realistic route to silverware.

By contrast, PSG sit atop Ligue 1 and carry the swagger of last season's Champions League winners. The odds, it seems, are heavily stacked in their favour.

Dugarry, speaking to RMC Sport, was emphatic in his assessment. "It's going to be a walk in the park, honestly — Liverpool are disastrous," the former Birmingham City forward declared. "In my opinion, the difference in level is colossal. I think PSG will wrap up the quarter-final in the first leg. It's going to be a massacre. Have you seen Liverpool play? They're catastrophic."

Yet not everyone within the PSG camp is quite so bullish. L'Equipe correspondent Pierre-Etienne Minonzio struck a more cautious note, suggesting that while confidence is sky-high, there remains healthy respect for Liverpool's pedigree.

Minonzio pointed to PSG's 5-2 demolition of Chelsea before the quarter-finals as proof of the team's resurgence. "Nobody within the club thinks it will be a massacre," he told the outlet. "There is total confidence, but they do respect Liverpool a lot. Before the first leg against Chelsea, there were huge doubts around PSG. There was talk about them being physically and mentally exhausted. But that 5-2 win felt like a turning point as it changed the momentum around the team."

The PSG insider did flag potential vulnerabilities, however. The loss of Gianluigi Donnarumma to Manchester City has left them with Matvey Safonov in goal—a step down in quality—whilst captain Marquinhos is not the force he once was. Chelsea's high-pressing tactics caused problems for an hour, and Liverpool could exploit similar weaknesses if they bring sufficient intensity.

"If Liverpool are very offensive and intense like that, they could do the same, as PSG aren't used to it," Minonzio noted. "But are Liverpool really in the shape to do that?"

Liverpool attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, at least, is relishing the occasion. The midfielder expressed his eagerness to perform in his first Champions League quarter-final, promising to "try everything" across both legs.

"These are the kind of games you want to play as a player," Wirtz told reporters in Paris. "I dreamed about them when I came to the club, so I'll try everything to do a good game here and also next week at Anfield."
