Galatasaray Prepare Van Dijk Bid as Liverpool Overhaul Deepens Under Iraola

Galatasaray are readying an official approach for Virgil van Dijk as the Liverpool captain finds himself at the centre of a potential summer exit, with the Turkish outfit eyeing the 34-year-old once business officially opens on June 15.

The Merseyside club are in the throes of a complete reset following Arne Slot's departure, with former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola now at the helm. Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have already headed for the exits, leaving the defensive ranks considerably depleted.

The situation at centre-back has become particularly acute. Konate's free transfer to Real Madrid compounds what was already a problematic shortage in that department, leaving Van Dijk and Joe Gomez as the primary senior options. Nineteen-year-old Giovanni Leoni is working his way back from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Jeremy Jacquet, arriving from Rennes, remains untested at Premier League level.

Losing another experienced defensive pillar would represent a significant blow during what is shaping up to be a demanding summer of transition.

Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has indicated that Galatasaray are preparing their move strategically. "Galatasaray hasn't made a move for Virgil Van Dijk yet. I expect some movement after June 15th. Galatasaray is considering making an official offer," Sabuncuoğlu stated.

The claims have been corroborated by Turkish outlet Fotomac, who report that Van Dijk sits at the top of Galatasaray's wish list. "Galatasaray has added world-renowned Liverpool stopper Virgil van Dijk to the top of their list. It was emphasized that contacts established with the 34-year-old Dutch star have gained momentum and the meetings will continue," the outlet reported.

Van Dijk on the Secrets of Sustained Excellence

The Liverpool captain has opened up about what has underpinned his eight-year spell at Anfield and his ability to maintain elite-level performances. Speaking to the club's official magazine, Van Dijk emphasised the cornerstone of his longevity: "Discipline, discipline and discipline!"

He elaborated: "For me it is something that is quite normal because I feel the responsibility to be there every time and also to perform every time."

Van Dijk acknowledged that his recent consistency has been near-total, noting that the previous campaign saw him benched for Brighton's final-day fixture. Beyond the mental commitment, he credited a comprehensive approach to physical maintenance.

"It's a combination of recovering well, eating well, the right lifestyle in total, also physical therapy," he explained. "I can't tell you the details, but yoga, everything. That's part of it, to make sure that you can perform at a constant level."

Reflecting on his injury history, Van Dijk highlighted a remarkable statistic. "I've had one season here that unfortunately I had to miss a lot of, but in the rest of the seasons I think I've played more than 40 matches. And I think the most matches before this season have been played in the season after my knee injury," he said.

"That's quite remarkable. When I heard that I thought it was quite interesting."

The Dutch defender concluded by reaffirming his commitment to competitive football: "But yes, it's the best thing there is, playing matches. And I do everything for that and I want to keep doing it at the highest level."
