Liverpool Sniff Around Mbappe as Real Madrid Implodes

It's been a season to forget at the Bernabéu. Real Madrid have hit rock bottom, sacking Xabi Alonso in January and bringing in Alvaro Arbeloa to salvage what was already a sinking ship. Spoiler alert: it hasn't worked. Los Blancos now trail Barcelona by 11 points in La Liga and have crashed out of every other competition, staring down the barrel of a trophy-less campaign.

Mbappe hit back on Tuesday with a statement defending the trip: "Part of the criticisms are based on an overinterpretation of elements related to a recovery period strictly supervised by the club."

That wasn't the end of it either. Reports emerged of a heated training ground exchange between the forward and a Real Madrid staff member, with Mbappe allegedly venting his frustrations in colourful language.

The fallout has left the dressing room fractured, and suddenly Liverpool are circling. The Reds, who've long held an interest in the 26-year-old, have now begun actively exploring whether a deal might be possible. The logic is straightforward: Mbappe would be an instant upgrade and a statement of intent in the transfer market, and Real Madrid's implosion might just make the impossible negotiable.

Yet before the champagne corks start popping at Anfield, Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on the speculation. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer guru warned against reading too much into the Madrid melodrama.

"For sure, it is not the best moment between Mbappe and Real Madrid," Romano acknowledged. "That is a reality. And obviously, to see a player like Mbappe on holiday while the team is struggling is something that reflects the moment. But let's not exaggerate."

Romano stressed that while tensions exist, the relationship hasn't fractured beyond repair. He noted that a separate dressing room incident involved two other players, not Mbappe, and that the broader dysfunction at the club extends well beyond one man.

"It is a complicated moment for Real Madrid, but not only because of Mbappe. There are many complicated situations at the club," he said.

The transfer insider was emphatic on one point: a summer departure is pure fantasy. "The future of Kylian Mbappe, at least for this summer, is not in doubt. Real Madrid will restart with Mbappe. He will be part of the project next season for sure," Romano stated.

Arbeloa's position remains precarious and likely to end when the season concludes, but Mbappe's future at the Bernabéu appears secure despite the turbulence. Real Madrid may be a mess right now, but they're not about to let their prize asset slip through their fingers at the first sign of trouble.
