Liverpool and United Circle Barcelona's Raphinha with £82m Summer Swoop

Two of England's biggest clubs are eyeing a summer raid on Barcelona for winger Raphinha, as the Brazilian international's stock rises once more.

The 27-year-old made the switch from Leeds United to the Catalan side in July 2022 for a reported £55m fee, arriving during Barcelona's well-documented financial turmoil. This season has seen him contribute nine goals and three assists across 18 outings in all competitions, though he's found consistency elusive at times.

Recent displays have caught attention, however. Raphinha has netted twice in consecutive matches against Real Oviedo and FC Copenhagen, reigniting Premier League suitors' interest in his services. Spanish reports indicate that both Liverpool and Manchester United are prepared to table bids worth €95m (£82m) to secure his signature come summer.

The winger would command wages in the region of €22m net annually should he accept a move to England's top flight. Notably, Raphinha has already turned down overtures from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal, making clear his preference for a return to the Premier League.

The Brazilian has credited his recent revival to the influence of Barcelona manager Hansi Flick. Speaking in an interview, Raphinha explained that the German tactician believed in him when others didn't, helping him unlock his best form. He described Flick as instrumental in delivering what he considers his finest season to date, crediting the manager with helping him rediscover his place in football and grow as a person.

Raphinha also spoke of the pride he takes in his leadership responsibilities at Barcelona, suggesting these were earned naturally rather than imposed. He emphasised his commitment to supporting teammates and extracting maximum effort from those around him on the pitch.
