Mac Allister's Dad Hints at Liverpool Exit as Reds Chase £73.5m Porto Sensation

Alexis Mac Allister could be heading for the Anfield exit this summer, with his father and representative Carlos dropping broad hints about a possible departure from Liverpool.

Having arrived from Brighton for £35m in the summer of 2023, the World Cup-winning midfielder enjoyed a strong first two campaigns on Merseyside before a sharp decline in form this season. Real Madrid have been among the clubs sniffing around his situation.

Speaking to WinWin, Carlos Mac Allister laid out the current state of play: "Alexis has a valid contract until June 2028 and so far we are not speaking publicly with any other club. We believe that the club's fans deserve this level of respect from the player. And so far the club has not negotiated with us to renew the contract."

That carefully worded "so far" suggests the door remains decidedly open for fresh developments come summer.

Liverpool appear relaxed about potentially moving the midfielder on at the right price, with Curtis Jones also facing potential interest from Inter Milan. Manager Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes will need to rebuild their midfield engine room accordingly.

According to Danish outlet Bold, the Reds are thoroughly smitten with the 20-year-old, who has impressed both for his Portuguese club and the Denmark national team.

Arsenal and Newcastle are similarly keen admirers, all three Premier League outfits showing considerable interest in the young midfielder. Porto acquired Froholdt from Copenhagen for roughly £19m last summer, but his contract contains an €85m (£73.5m) release clause that could trigger a substantial windfall.

The 10-time Denmark international has a knack for winning silverware—he secured a domestic double with Copenhagen before his move to Portugal. That pedigree has continued in the Primeira Liga, where he's helped Porto to the title with 85 points from 32 matches.
