Liverpool Sweeten Konate Deal to Fend Off Real Madrid and Continental Vultures

Liverpool have upped the ante in their bid to persuade Ibrahima Konate to commit his future to Anfield, rolling out a fresh and enhanced contract proposal as they seek to finally put an end to months of transfer speculation.

The Merseysiders have been chasing Konate's signature since autumn 2024, yet negotiations have dragged on without resolution. With the 26-year-old's current deal set to expire this summer, time is rapidly running out to prevent another painful free agent departure.

This latest offer represents Liverpool's most lucrative proposal yet in terms of basic salary, according to reports. The club harbour genuine optimism that the improved terms will prove sufficient to convince their French defender to stay put.

However, Liverpool face stiff competition for Konate's services. Real Madrid continue to circle—a familiar pattern that has haunted the Reds in the transfer market. Just last summer, Los Blancos prised Trent Alexander-Arnold away from his boyhood club, whilst also securing Dean Huijsen, a centre-back target Liverpool had pursued. Further back, Madrid snatched both of Liverpool's top midfield priorities in consecutive windows: Aurelien Tchouameni in 2022 and Jude Bellingham in 2023.

The Spanish giants hold particular appeal for Konate, who would join fellow France internationals Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga, Tchouameni and Kylian Mbappe at the Bernabeu.

Yet Madrid are far from alone in the hunt. Barcelona have thrown their hat into the ring, whilst reports from Italy suggesting Inter Milan's interest have now been verified. German media have even suggested Konate may already be mentally checked out at Liverpool, with a Madrid switch firmly in his thoughts.

Should Konate depart, Liverpool have already agreed a deal for Jeremy Jacquet. However, the club's preference remains securing both men—keeping Konate whilst still bringing Jacquet through the door. If the Frenchman does leave, the Reds will pursue an additional centre-back alongside Jacquet to bolster their defensive ranks.
