Klopp's Red Bull Grip Threatens to Derail Liverpool's Diomande Swoop

Liverpool's summer window is already shaping up to be a delicate balancing act, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson preparing for their final bows this weekend. The Reds have at least managed to convince Alisson to stick around for another season, but replacing Salah's output—alongside addressing Cody Gakpo's disappointing campaign—will prove no straightforward task.

Enter Yan Diomande. The RB Leipzig winger has been the subject of considerable chatter among the Merseyside faithful, with both Liverpool and PSG registering serious interest in the Ivory Coast international. On paper, he ticks all the boxes for a top-six club seeking creative firepower down the flank.

The stumbling block? Jurgen Klopp himself, now installed as head of global soccer for the Red Bull group, holds considerable sway over Leipzig's transfer strategy. With Klopp effectively pulling the strings across Red Bull's portfolio of clubs, Leipzig have made their position crystal clear: Diomande is staying put this summer, full stop.

The Daily Mirror reports that Leipzig chiefs are "adamant" the youngster "is going nowhere" after Liverpool placed him "near the top of their wish-list." The German outfit's resolve has only stiffened following their Champions League qualification, leaving them in no mood to entertain departures from their key personnel.

PSG's interest adds another layer of complexity, particularly given the ripple effects it creates for Arsenal, who are monitoring PSG's Bradley Barcola. But for now, Leipzig are standing firm regardless of the financial muscle being flexed by either suitor.

That said, transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano painted a rather different picture earlier this week. He revealed that Diomande remains genuinely open to the prospect of leaving, with both Liverpool and PSG actively "pushing" for his signature. Leipzig, according to Romano, are demanding in the region of €100 million (£86m) should any deal materialise.

"Diomande is absolutely on the shortlist, and near the top of the shortlist, for both Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool," Romano explained. "These two clubs are pushing for Diomande and the player is considering his options carefully. He is speaking with his agents and the clubs to understand the best possible option in terms of project, contract, development and manager."

However, Leipzig have presented an alternative proposition to the player: remain for another season, depart in 2027, pocket an improved contract, and benefit from a release clause provision. It's a tempting offer designed to keep the talent at the Red Bull Arena.

Yet Romano insisted the situation remains fluid. "Diomande is still considering leaving this summer," he stated, noting that any departure would require serious negotiations with Leipzig over their €100 million valuation—potentially rising further depending on incoming offers.

The bottom line: Liverpool want him, PSG want him, and Leipzig will dictate the terms. With Klopp now effectively holding the keys to the Leipzig kingdom, the Reds' hopes of adding another creative outlet may well hinge on whether their former manager is willing to help facilitate an exit. For now, all signs suggest he isn't.
