Owen Makes Case for Bowen as Salah Successor at Liverpool

Michael Owen has publicly championed Jarrod Bowen as the ideal candidate to fill Mohamed Salah's boots at Liverpool, with the Egyptian winger set to depart Anfield at season's end.

FSG are actively scouring the market for a right-sided replacement, and the former Liverpool striker reckons the West Ham United and England international ticks every box. Speaking on talkSPORT, Owen outlined precisely why Bowen would suit the Merseyside club's requirements.

"I've mentioned it to a couple of mates already," Owen explained. "Look, Jarrod Bowen's a legend—West Ham adore him, and justifiably so. But if West Ham went down, he'd be my pick to replace Salah."

The pundit went on to detail his admiration for the 29-year-old's all-round game, recalling a striking masterclass the pair conducted for television last season. "Left foot, right foot, bang bang, corners, pace—a genuine top finisher," Owen enthused. "I think he's brilliant. I'd take him to the World Cup, and without wanting to upset the Hammers faithful, if they dropped down, he'd be my answer to the Salah question."

Bowen's credentials are undeniable. Since joining West Ham in January 2020, he's accumulated 84 goals and 62 assists across 277 appearances in all competitions, operating under a contract that runs until summer 2030.

However, any Liverpool move faces significant hurdles. West Ham currently sit third from bottom in the Premier League, though the club have made clear their intentions regarding their prized asset. According to reporting from late April, the Hammers have "no intention" of parting with Bowen should they secure their top-flight status for next season. The east London outfit have valued him at €60million—approximately £52m—and won't be rushed into negotiations.

Relegation would alter the landscape considerably, but West Ham's determination to keep their star man suggests Liverpool may need to look elsewhere unless circumstances change dramatically.
