Liverpool's transfer ambitions this summer are taking shape, with sporting director Richard Hughes apparently ready to use Harvey Elliott as a makeweight in negotiations for Leipzig's prized winger Yan Diomande.

The Reds' season came to a disappointing conclusion, securing Champions League football only after mustering just two points from their final four matches—a far cry from their title-winning campaign under Arne Slot twelve months prior. Despite the wobble, speculation about the manager's future has been quashed, with indications pointing towards Slot staying put for next season.

Reinforcements will be essential, particularly in wide areas. Cody Gakpo's left-wing performances have underwhelmed this term, while Mohamed Salah has already confirmed his departure from the club.

Diomande, the Leipzig winger who has impressed in the Bundesliga, represents Liverpool's standout target. However, the German club's valuation—approximately €100m for the Ivory Coast international—presents a formidable obstacle.

Leipzig have tabled a counter-proposal: a new contract with improved wages, a release clause, and the chance to depart in 2027. Yet Diomande appears inclined towards an immediate exit this summer.

Recent reports suggest Slot has already held discussions with the winger regarding his potential role within the Liverpool setup should a deal materialise. Leipzig will ultimately hold the upper hand in negotiations, with the club prepared to demand premium fees depending on incoming proposals.
