Liverpool in the hunt for Villa's Morgan Rogers as midfielder opens door to summer switch

Liverpool have made contact with the representatives of Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers over the winter transfer period, with fresh reports suggesting the attacking midfielder is now willing to entertain approaches from other clubs when the summer window opens.

The Merseyside outfit are in the midst of a disappointing campaign by their recent standards, languishing sixth in the Premier League table after 26 matches. Their Champions League credentials remain intact following qualification to the last-16, whilst a commanding 3-0 dismantling of Brighton on Saturday sent them into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Yet the pressure continues to mount on manager Arne Slot, with considerable speculation surrounding his future despite delivering a Premier League title in his inaugural season. Many within the game are tipping the club to seek a new direction come summer.

The scale of Liverpool's ambition in the transfer market is evident from their summer spending, which exceeded £400m. High-profile arrivals included Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, yet the investment has not yielded the desired results on the pitch. There's every indication the club will splash the cash again in the off-season, with the possibility of Mohamed Salah and others departing Anfield creating scope for fresh recruitment.

Offensive reinforcement remains a priority, and according to reporting from a reliable X account comprising five elite journalists, Liverpool have engaged in dialogue with Rogers' camp, with neither party shutting the door on a potential arrangement. The player himself is now receptive to fresh opportunities elsewhere, with the account stating: "Exclusive. Liverpool have held talks with Morgan Rogers' representatives and the door wasn't shut on them. The player is open to all proposals in the summer #lfc."

Rogers' profile has attracted attention from across England's elite. Both Tottenham and Chelsea have been linked with the Villa midfielder, with Spurs viewed as harbouring particularly ambitious designs on his signature.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently outlined the landscape on his YouTube channel: "I'm sure Chelsea are still tracking Morgan Rogers as one of the most talented wingers in the game at the moment. So Chelsea are still very attentive. For Tottenham, he is a dream target, for sure, but at the moment, again, the player was not available last summer. So it was not possible for Tottenham to proceed."

Romano added: "Let's see if other clubs will join the race. We also have to see what happens, for example, at Arsenal and other clubs who can be involved in this possibility. Obviously, Manchester City have already invested in a winger like Antoine Semenyo in the January window. But the situation of Morgan Rogers will be for sure one to watch, I think, in the summer."

The pundit acknowledged Villa's position: "Aston Villa, obviously, will try to keep the player and will try to resist the proposals, but in case they get an important, important bid, a huge proposal, a huge amount of money, that could still be a possibility."
