Bayern's Rio Ngumoha Move Leaves Liverpool Seething as Transfer Vultures Circle

Liverpool's troubles just keep mounting. Fresh off a miserable campaign that saw Arne Slot sacked following a fifth-place Premier League finish—a humbling drop from champions the previous year—the Reds now face the prospect of losing key figures Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson to other clubs.

But that's merely the appetiser to their main headache: Bayern Munich have quietly begun circling Rio Ngumoha, Liverpool's most promising young talent, and the Merseyside outfit is absolutely livid about it.

The Bavarian giants have been scouring the market for attacking reinforcements, particularly down the left flank, with Ngumoha firmly planted at the top of their shopping list. Vincent Kompany and Bayern's board have identified the 17-year-old as their prime target, though they haven't yet made formal contact with Liverpool's hierarchy.

According to David Ornstein's reporting, Liverpool have made their position crystal clear: Ngumoha is not available. The club intends to strengthen their options in his area of the pitch rather than deplete them.

The youngster's situation is complicated by reports that he harboured some frustration regarding his game time during Slot's tenure. Yet that hasn't dimmed Liverpool's enthusiasm for his potential—quite the opposite, in fact.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, who maintains strong connections throughout English football, believes Liverpool will wage an all-out war to keep their prized asset. "They rate him very highly," Brown explained, "and with Salah already gone, losing Ngumoha would be a disaster. He's already demonstrated he's capable of making a genuine impact."

Brown also took aim at the manner of Bayern's approach. "I was under the impression that tapping up players without the club's permission was supposed to be illegal," he noted wryly, "but apparently it happens all the time. What's different here is how brazen it's been—and that's not going to sit well with anyone at Anfield. Liverpool will be doing everything in their power to stop this, and they certainly won't be letting him leave for Bayern now that this has all come out in the open."

Ngumoha has already made waves on the international stage, earning a call-up to England's pre-World Cup training camp in Florida alongside three other emerging talents. He made his senior debut against New Zealand, scooping the player-of-the-match award in the process.

Reflecting on the experience, Ngumoha admitted the whole thing felt surreal. "It was a crazy feeling," he said. "I was buzzing, really. I knew there'd be two different teams, so I was prepared, but there wasn't much time to overthink it. I just wanted to get out there and show what I could do."

When the FA's director of football, John McDermott, initially rang with the invitation, Ngumoha jumped at the chance. "You don't turn down a call like that," he explained. "I knew my job was to help the other lads prepare, but also to showcase what I'm capable of."

Training alongside England's elite has proven invaluable. "Everyone's sharp, everyone knows how to play," Ngumoha observed. "Off the pitch, there's no ego—everyone's humble, friendly, and just normal people. It's been brilliant."

With Liverpool already gutted by departures this summer and their season in tatters, surrendering Ngumoha to Bayern would represent another crushing blow. Expect the Reds to dig in their heels on this one.
