Fowler Backs Pulisic Swoop as Liverpool Face Diomande Setback

Liverpool's summer transfer business has hit a significant roadblock, with their primary winger target set to slip away to the French capital.

The Merseyside club announced back in March that Mohamed Salah would depart Anfield when the season concluded, prompting an urgent search for a replacement on the wing. Having already brought in Victor Munoz from Osasuna, the Reds identified Yan Diomande as their marquee addition, but negotiations with RB Leipzig have stalled.

Liverpool tabled a substantial offer—initially €80m plus €20m in add-ons—for the Ivory Coast international, only to see it rejected. The German club are holding firm at a €130m valuation, with Diomande apparently preferring a move to Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique's management.

According to reporting from Ben Jacobs, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has now initiated direct talks with Leipzig, with former CEO Oliver Mintzlaff—currently chair of the supervisory board—directly involved in negotiations. The pair's established relationship suggests PSG are confident of reaching an agreement.

Should the French club secure Diomande, they could accelerate the exit of Bradley Barcola, another name on Liverpool's radar, though PSG have thus far resisted selling the forward.

With Diomande seemingly destined for Paris, Liverpool have shifted their focus to alternative options. Said El Mala, Matias Fernandez-Pardo, and Yankuba Minteh are all under consideration, whilst Barcola remains in the conversation should PSG's stance change.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has thrown another name into the mix, suggesting the club consider Christian Pulisic. The former Chelsea winger, currently representing the United States at the World Cup, has caught the eye of the Anfield faithful over recent years.

"One name I've not seen mentioned is Pulisic," Fowler posted on social media. "Good age, played in the Prem, exciting player, I'd take him, potentially a Salah type of pathway, thoughts?"

Pulisic's familiarity with English football and his age profile could make him an intriguing alternative as Liverpool navigate what promises to be a complex summer window.
