Diomande Downplays Liverpool 'Dream Club' Talk, Reveals Klopp Conversations

RB Leipzig's increasingly coveted winger Yan Diomande has moved to dispel the narrative that Liverpool represents his ultimate career ambition, despite widespread speculation linking him with a summer switch to Anfield.

The Spanish-born talent found himself at the centre of a January transfer scramble, with Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool all circling. Whilst a mid-season departure always appeared unlikely, summer remains fertile ground for potential suitors—though Leipzig's hierarchy appears determined to retain their prized asset.

Oliver Mintzlaff, the Red Bull empire's managing director, struck a defiant tone when discussing his young star's future. Having arrived from Leganes just last July, Diomande hardly seems destined for an immediate exit. "With such a young player that we just signed, you can't give him away after just one year," Mintzlaff declared. "As chairman of the supervisory board, I would say that he will still be there next season, even if an offer of €80million or €90m comes."

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, however, anticipates an almighty scramble come summer, with both Manchester United and Tottenham prepared to make serious moves. Leipzig, having already cashed in on Benjamin Sesko, Lois Openda and Xavi Simons, appear unlikely to sanction a January departure regardless. "RB Leipzig insist that Diomande will not leave in this January window," Romano explained. "The message from Leipzig is that the player will stay in January, but in the summer it will be a crazy battle."

Yet Diomande himself has sought to cool the Liverpool speculation that has dominated recent headlines. Speaking to German newspaper Bild, the winger clarified that the Merseyside club represents something rather different to him personally. "People made it out to be my dream club," he explained. "But first and foremost, it's my dad's favourite club. It was always his great wish to see me play there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield. He always raved about Steven Gerrard."

Growing up without even basic television access made following the Premier League a luxury rather than a given. Yet his father's passion for the club clearly made an impression. "I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig," Diomande insisted, leaving little room for misinterpretation.

When probed about potential conversations with Liverpool's new manager, Diomande confirmed he has enjoyed regular chats with Jürgen Klopp—though nothing of a recruitment nature. "No, not that," he clarified. "But we talk every now and then. He tells me to stay humble and keep working hard."

The opportunity to interact with such a revered figure remains a source of wonder for the young winger. "It was always my dream to play on one of his teams. That's not quite possible now. But being so close to him now, talking to him, shaking his hand, it's incredible. He's a legend. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a movie."
