Liverpool have begun exploring the possibility of launching a bid for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott as Andoni Iraola plots his first summer recruitment drive at Anfield.

The Reds confirmed Iraola's arrival on Thursday, bringing the former Bournemouth boss in on a two-year contract to succeed Arne Slot. Now, as the new manager prepares to reshape his squad, Scott has emerged as an early target – a player who impressed considerably during Bournemouth's successful push toward Europa League qualification.

The 22-year-old has established himself among the Premier League's most promising midfielders this season, naturally attracting attention from several heavyweight suitors. Alongside Liverpool, both Manchester United and Tottenham are monitoring the situation closely, with Spurs holding a particular advantage given Scott's boyhood allegiance to the north London club.

According to reports, Liverpool are considering a £40m approach. However, that figure falls well short of Bournemouth's valuation. The south coast outfit are demanding £60m for their prized asset, creating a significant gap that any interested party must bridge to strike a deal.

Scott's potential availability presents one of several midfield options being examined by Liverpool this summer. The club are also keeping tabs on RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, among others, as Iraola weighs up how best to complement the £415m worth of talent acquired during the previous transfer window – a spending spree that brought in the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez.

Interestingly, Scott has already offered glowing praise for his potential new manager. Speaking on Iraola's appointment, the midfielder highlighted the Bournemouth boss's tactical influence and the impression he's made during their time together.

"He's obviously a top-class manager," Scott reflected. "Look at what Bournemouth achieved under him over three seasons – the improvement has been remarkable. His pressing approach is incredibly aggressive, reminiscent of Liverpool's early Klopp sides with that relentless intensity from the wingers. The Anfield faithful should be thrilled with what he brings to the table. Personally, he's done wonders for my development."

For now, the ball remains in Liverpool's court. Whether they can close the £20m gap between their opening gambit and Bournemouth's asking price – while also fending off competition from their rivals – will determine whether Scott becomes the first piece of Iraola's Merseyside jigsaw.
