Liverpool Dig in Their Heels on Alisson as Italian Suitors Circle

Liverpool are standing firm on Alisson and have no intention of entertaining transfer proposals for their goalkeeper when the summer window opens, according to the latest reports from Italy.

The Brazil shot-stopper has delivered another reliable campaign for the Reds, though persistent injury concerns have sparked speculation about his future at Anfield. However, with Giorgi Mamardashvili already installed as his long-term successor following his arrival from Valencia last summer, the club appear content to see out the remaining years of their number one's deal.

Mamardashvili will get his chance to impress on Tuesday night in the Champions League last-16 tie against Galatasaray, with Alisson unavailable. Manager Arne Slot explained the situation on Monday: "Ali was in training as everyone saw, but unfortunately he picked up something towards the end of the session. We looked at it together and decided it wasn't worth the risk for tomorrow, so there's no point in him travelling."

Both Juventus and Inter have been circling, with reports suggesting both Italian heavyweights are hunting for a goalkeeper of genuine pedigree. Yet journalist Franco Leonetti has indicated that Liverpool are refusing to budge, insisting they want Alisson to honour his contract through to June 2027. Speaking to Radio Bianconera, Leonetti stated: "It's understandable that Juventus are looking for a goalkeeper with international experience. Whether it will be Oblak, Alisson, or someone else is too early to say. Regarding Alisson, the English club are saying that they would like to respect his contract until June 2027."

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added that Alisson himself is content to remain at Merseyside for at least another season. "What we know about Alisson at the moment is that he intends to stay at Liverpool for another year," Romano explained. "He still has one year left on his contract and Alisson would like to complete it there, so Alisson doesn't want to leave at the moment. Should Liverpool decide to put him on the market, we'll see about that."

Former Liverpool keeper Brad Friedel has weighed in with his perspective, arguing that the club should exhaust every avenue to retain their custodian. "You have to look at the greats, your goalkeeping greats, and what happened for a short time while teams try and figure out how to replace them," Friedel told Nettotobak. "It usually takes a while."

He drew parallels with Manchester United's experience after Peter Schmeichel's departure, highlighting the lengthy search before Edwin van der Sar arrived. "I think Alisson is the best," Friedel continued. "I like all parts of his game. I think he doesn't have a true weakness. Are there people that might be a little better with their feet? Yes, but he is still very good with his feet. There are certain players that would take a long time to replace and certain players that would leave a huge dent if they left. He is one of those. I would do everything I possibly could to keep him there for as long as possible – squeeze every ounce of talent that you can out of the guy until he can't walk any more, then give him an incredible send-off and shake his hand."
