Liverpool Slam Door Shut on Bayern Munich's Ngumoha Pursuit

Bayern Munich's summer shopping list has taken a hit after Liverpool delivered an unambiguous message: Rio Ngumoha is not for sale, under any circumstances.

The German giants had made a concrete play for the England international winger, with manager Vincent Kompany personally keen on bringing the teenager to the Allianz Arena. Reports suggested Bayern had even reached a full verbal agreement with Ngumoha and his representatives on 26 May, positioning him as their primary left-wing target alongside their pursuit of Anthony Gordon.

Yet the deal unravelled almost as quickly as it materialised, collapsing on 27 May when Liverpool made their position abundantly clear: negotiations would not be entertained.

According to German journalist Christian Falk, when Bayern came knocking at Anfield, they received a swift and decisive response. "There would be no time or reason for talks; there would be no negotiations," Falk reported the Reds signalling to their Bavarian counterparts. Liverpool's conviction about Ngumoha's potential was such that they flatly rejected any notion of a sale.

Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano subsequently confirmed Liverpool's stance, describing the 17-year-old as "untouchable" and a player the club views as "crucial part of the project" with "no chance for his exit."

Ngumoha's breakthrough came despite limited opportunities under previous manager Arne Slot, who started him just five times in the Premier League last season. Yet Slot held the winger in notably high regard, particularly after he opened his Anfield account against Fulham in April.

"He's not only the long-term future but also the near future," Slot reflected at the time, highlighting how Ngumoha's physical development and consistency had evolved. The manager was especially impressed by the teenager's rare ability to dominate one-on-one situations, comparing his goal-scoring technique to Mohamed Salah's finishing prowess.

"He has such a special quality you don't see very often in football anymore," Slot said, underscoring the exceptional nature of Ngumoha's talent.

With Andoni Iraola now at the helm, Liverpool's hierarchy remains convinced of their young winger's trajectory—and they're keeping him exactly where he is.
