Bayern Munich Deny Salah Approach as MLS Chief Rounds on Egypt's Dismissive Comments

Bayern Munich have moved to squash speculation linking Mohamed Salah to the Bundesliga, with sporting director Max Eberl issuing a categorical denial that any approach has been made for the Liverpool forward.

The Reds confirmed last week that Salah's time at Anfield will end this summer, with the club prepared to release him on a free transfer despite a year remaining on his contract. The arrangement will free up approximately £22m in wages from Liverpool's books for the 2026-27 campaign.

The Egyptian has already become the subject of intense transfer gossip, with interest spanning multiple continents and leagues. Saudi Arabia's top flight has long harboured ambitions of landing the 33-year-old, whilst Roma, PSG, and Bayern have all been mooted as potential destinations alongside various MLS franchises.

Ibrahim Hassan, director of Egypt's national team setup, had earlier this week claimed he was aware of concrete overtures heading Salah's way. Speaking to On Sports, Hassan outlined his hierarchy of preferred destinations: "I would prefer him to stay in Europe. I have heard about offers from Paris St-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs in the Italian league. A move to the Major League? He would be far too out of the spotlight. You won't remember Salah any more than I remember Messi now. I don't even try to watch him. If he does not receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would be a good option, especially with big names such as Cristiano Ronaldo."

When pressed on the Bayern connection, Eberl was unambiguous in his response to Winwin: "No, Mohamed Salah has not received any offer from Bayern Munich."

Garber, the MLS commissioner, has taken exception to Hassan's dismissal of American football's pulling power, citing the Argentine icon as evidence of the league's continued magnetism for world-class talent. Speaking to The Guardian, Garber said: "That's the first time that I've ever heard anything like that. Leo Messi is the most popular player in the world. He was, and he still is. I'd be happy to send an Apple subscription to the head of the Egyptian FA so he can watch as many Messi games as he'd like."

Away from the transatlantic spat, Jamie Carragher has weighed in on Salah's likely next move. The Liverpool legend believes the winger retains sufficient quality to land a marquee role at one of Europe's elite before any potential Saudi switch materialises.

Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher said: "I think Mo Salah, the way he's driven like a Ronaldo, I don't see the Saudi thing just yet. I can see him in Italy with one of the giants. I just think your career's over when you go there. I think he'll still be looking at his Champions League record or how many goals he can get. I still think he thinks, 'I'm still one of the best players, and me leaving now is not the end of my top-level career, I've still got something to give'."
