Liverpool Eye Bundesliga Star Raum as Robertson and Tsimikas Head for the Exit

The Reds are making moves in the full-back department this summer, with significant changes afoot on Merseyside following Robertson's departure announcement.

Andy Robertson's time at Liverpool is coming to an end. The 32-year-old Scot will leave when his contract expires on June 30, with Tottenham waiting in the wings—provided the north London club avoid the drop. A verbal agreement between the parties is already locked in.

Alongside Robertson's exit, Kostas Tsimikas is also heading for the door. The Greek international's loan at Roma has proven mutually unsatisfactory, and the club have decided against keeping him. A recall attempt in January fell flat after Roma refused to include such a clause in the deal. The 29-year-old will return to Anfield this summer only to be moved on.

This double departure opens the door for Liverpool to make a significant statement in the transfer market. Enter David Raum.

The 27-year-old Leipzig captain has caught the attention of the Merseyside club, with scouts watching him during the club's 1-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday. Raum impressed sufficiently to earn player-of-the-match honours. The German international, who has 36 caps to his name, is now firmly in Liverpool's sights.

His numbers from left-back tell a compelling story. Over the past three seasons, Raum has chipped in with 27 assists at a rate of one every 3.7 games—the sort of attacking output that catches any top club's eye.

The timing works in Liverpool's favour too. With Raum's contract expiring in summer 2027, Leipzig will be motivated to cash in now rather than risk losing him for nothing. That financial reality should help keep the transfer fee reasonable.

The plan appears clear: bring Raum in to compete with Milos Kerkez for the starting berth, or potentially elevate him above the Hungarian in the pecking order. Given the calibre of player Liverpool are chasing, they're not shopping for a bargain backup—they want genuine competition for places.

Manager Arne Slot has already shown his hand with Kerkez. The 21-year-old Hungarian became the first-choice left-back immediately upon arrival, which speaks volumes about how the boss rates him. That Robertson remained as backup rather than Tsimikas is equally telling about Slot's assessment of the Greek defender.
