Alonso Plotting Overhaul at Liverpool: Three Stars Face Exits as Real Madrid's Tchouameni Emerges as Prime Target

Xabi Alonso appears to have wasted little time planning a sweeping revamp at Liverpool, with fresh reports from Spain indicating the incoming manager has earmarked three significant departures whilst eyeing a marquee arrival from Real Madrid.

The Reds secured a commanding 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield this past weekend, with Alexander Isak, Andy Robertson, and Florian Wirtz among the scorers as they climbed to fourth in the Premier League standings. Yet despite the win, questions persist about current boss Arne Slot's tenure, with several players falling well short of the form they displayed during last season's title-winning campaign.

Speculation has intensified that Alonso will assume the managerial reins come summer, and according to Spanish media, the former Bayer Leverkusen tactician has already begun mapping out his blueprint following discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy.

The three-pronged exodus reportedly sanctioned by Alonso centres on Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson. Whilst Salah remains contracted through another twelve months, Alonso has apparently given the nod for his departure—a move already flagged publicly last month. The Spanish outlet claims these departures form part of a fundamental restructuring designed to "rejuvenate the roster, redefine roles, and build a more balanced unit better suited to their playing style."

Tchouameni stands as Alonso's primary recruitment target, with the Real Madrid midfielder described as having his name "circled in red" on the manager's wishlist. Alonso's familiarity with the France international has apparently convinced him that Tchouameni represents the ideal candidate to restore midfield equilibrium.

However, any Liverpool move appears to face a significant hurdle. Tchouameni harbours no appetite for a Spanish exit, whilst Real Madrid equally show no willingness to part with a player they consider fundamental to their long-term project.

On the broader managerial situation, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano poured cold water on suggestions that Alonso's appointment is imminent. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano stated: "I'm not aware of Xabi Alonso already in talks with Liverpool. Liverpool have not approached Xabi Alonso so far."

Romano noted that Liverpool's last substantive contact with Alonso predated Arne Slot's appointment, when the Spaniard ultimately opted to remain at Bayer Leverkusen before engineering his subsequent move to the Bernabéu. He added that Slot continues to enjoy the backing of the club's ownership, with any managerial review scheduled for season's end involving all stakeholders.

"At the moment, Slot is not receiving any message about the possibility of being fired at the end of the season," Romano concluded.
