Alisson's Anfield Future Remains Uncertain as Iraola Faces Massive Overhaul

Andoni Iraola has barely taken his seat in the Liverpool hot seat before facing one of the biggest squad shake-ups in recent memory. The Spaniard's appointment as Reds boss was confirmed on Thursday evening, replacing Arne Slot after his spell at Bournemouth came to an end.

Speaking to the club's media team, Iraola couldn't hide his enthusiasm about the job ahead. "Really excited, really excited," he said. "You know about Liverpool, you know that it's a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world. But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it's a special club."

He continued: "The atmosphere, the supporters, the club, the players, the chance for me to coach top-level players, the chance to fight for titles. I think it cannot be more attractive than this. It's difficult to find it."

However, the honeymoon period may be brief. Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah have already been confirmed as summer departures, and now a significant question mark hangs over goalkeeper Alisson's future.

Whilst some reports have suggested Liverpool want to keep the Brazilian for at least another season, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown – a figure with strong connections throughout the Premier League – believes Alisson's situation remains far from settled.

"Iraola's first task is going to be to assess his squad," Brown told Football Insider. "He needs to know which players he wants to keep, which ones he wants to get rid of, and any positions on the pitch where he feels they will need to strengthen."

The scale of the rebuild is substantial. Centre-back is a glaring concern with Virgil van Dijk advancing in years and Konate heading for the exit. Right-back desperately needs attention too, with neither Conor Bradley nor Jarell Quissak Frimpong deemed adequate solutions.

Then there's the goalkeeper situation. "The goalkeeper is ageing now, he's had injury problems too and we don't know if he's going to be allowed to leave," Brown noted, leaving the door open for Alisson's potential departure to Serie A.

Midfield presents different challenges – the squad boasts quality options but they're largely cut from the same cloth. Iraola may fancy introducing a different type of midfielder to freshen things up.

The most pressing priority, though? Finding Salah's replacement out wide. That task alone will keep the recruitment team burning the midnight oil.

"It's a very big job for Iraola," Brown concluded, "but preparations are underway and he will be working closely with the recruitment team to get the squad in the right shape for the season."

For a manager arriving to implement his high-energy, high-tempo football, the summer agenda is mountainous. The question is whether Liverpool's recruitment machine can deliver the overhaul required.
