Bradley's Season-Ending Injury Prompts Liverpool to Accelerate Right-Back Search

Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of a new right-back in the January window after Conor Bradley's season-ending knee injury dealt a significant blow to their defensive options.

The Welsh full-back underwent surgery following his injury sustained in last week's goalless stalemate with Arsenal, leaving the Reds scrambling for reinforcements at the position. Bradley had been a mainstay this term, starting 12 Premier League matches compared to Jeremie Frimpong's four appearances.

Arne Slot's side sit fourth in the table, already 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal—a stark contrast to their title charge last season. Despite investing over £400m in summer signings, Liverpool have struggled to mount a convincing defence of their crown, with several recruits failing to deliver the expected impact.

With Frimpong as their only natural alternative at right-back, the Merseyside outfit are now considering whether to dip into the market this month rather than wait until the summer. According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, the Dutchman's tendency to drift forward and occasional defensive lapses make him a questionable long-term solution for the position.

"Conor Bradley has picked up this serious injury, which is a shame because he's done really well for Liverpool and losing him will be a blow to their plans," Brown told Football Insider. "They've got Jeremie Frimpong who can play there, but they tend to prefer him in more attacking areas and can be unreliable defensively."

Brown, who retains strong connections across the Premier League, believes Liverpool's recruitment department will have contingency plans in place. "As with any top club, their recruitment team will have been prepared for any eventuality, so they'll already have a number of top-class right-backs on their radar," he explained.

The former Manchester United scout suggested that while Liverpool won't panic into a hasty deal, a genuine opportunity in January could force their hand. "This may mean they check if any are available in January, and if they have the opportunity to bring somebody in, then they could do it. It will have to be somebody who improves their side and they won't rush into anything, but if the right deal comes up they may now have to make a move."

Bradley's development at Bolton before his return to Anfield had marked him out as a key player in Slot's plans, making his loss a particularly frustrating turn of events for the Liverpool manager.
