Lineker Hails Gabriel as World's Premier Centre-Back; Richards Tips Jesus as Arsenal's Title Ace

Arsenal's midweek demolition of Aston Villa—a commanding 4-1 triumph—has reinforced their stranglehold atop the Premier League table, and the plaudits keep rolling in for the Gunners' standout performers.

Gary Lineker has wasted little time in lavishing praise on one particular defender, declaring Gabriel Magalhaes the finest centre-back currently operating in world football. Speaking on The Rest Is Football, the former England striker made his admiration abundantly clear.

"Gabriel, in particular, he's a force, isn't he?" Lineker explained. "I was talking to Harry last night when we were watching the game against Villa—if you had to pick one centre half from world football, I think at the moment I would go Gabriel."

Alan Shearer echoed the sentiment, highlighting the Brazilian's remarkable positioning and technical prowess in both penalty areas. "That desire to get on the end of balls coming into the box, set pieces, in both boxes is amazing," Shearer noted. "It's no fluke the number of times that ball lands on his end, both defending and when he has to go up and attack his own corner. It's such a great skill and technique to have what he has in both boxes, it's amazing."

Beyond the backline, Micah Richards has identified another potential game-changer in Arsenal's title challenge: Gabriel Jesus. The returning forward, Richards suggests, possesses the quality to make the decisive difference as Arsenal battle Manchester City and rivals for the crown.

"He looks sharp again, he could be the difference between Arsenal winning the league or not," Richards declared. "I watched him a lot at Man City and he never really was the main man, but he does so much for the team that maybe goes unnoticed. His work-rate, his press, his ability to make his own chances even though he is not clinical at times."

Richards acknowledged Jesus's injury troubles since joining Arsenal, but believes the current setup—with Kai Havertz and Alexander Gyokeres providing attacking depth—positions him perfectly to deliver when it matters most. "When he first went to Arsenal, he was unbelievable, unplayable at times. Then he got his injury and when he came back, he wasn't the same," Richards reflected.

"But now, with different options and not having to rely on him for the full 90 minutes as the main man, you have Havertz, you have Gyokeres so he can manage his minutes and get the best out of him in the time that is required for when he is on the pitch. And that is why I think he could be the difference."

Richards further backed Jesus's clinical finishing over Gyokeres, suggesting the Brazilian's quality in front of goal could prove crucial. "I think he's got more quality than Gyokeres. He's still finding his feet but in games this season, Gyokeres has had big chances and not taken them, but Jesus is good enough to take those chances. Having the three options could be the difference."
