Hall's World Cup Snub Hands United Fresh Hope in £60m Newcastle Raid

Manchester United have received an unexpected lift in their attempt to prise Lewis Hall away from Newcastle, with the 21-year-old's disappointment at being overlooked for England's World Cup campaign potentially working in their favour.

Newcastle's valuation sits at £60million for the left-back, who has caught the eye of the Old Trafford hierarchy. Hall himself is understood to view a switch to Manchester as an attractive proposition—not least because it would restore his Champions League football after tasting European competition this season at St James' Park.

United had been exploring alternatives, with Nathaniel Brown on their radar. However, the German international's impending transfer to Bayern Munich has prompted a tactical shift. Hall has now become the club's primary target, and there is mounting optimism within the corridors of Old Trafford that the player would seriously entertain a move.

The Red Devils' confidence appears well-founded. Club sources remain bullish that the 21-year-old is genuinely interested in joining, with preparations already underway for an intensified approach in the coming weeks.

What may have tilted the scales in United's direction is Hall's evident frustration at missing out on Thomas Tuchel's 26-man England squad. The left-back was deployed out of position at right-back during Newcastle's penultimate fixture—a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest—before Tuchel announced his World Cup selection. He was hauled off at the interval in the subsequent 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in April, then found himself confined to the bench for matches against Arsenal and Brighton.

Hall's predicament stemmed from Eddie Howe's tactical requirements. With regular right-back Tino Livramento sidelined through injury, the Newcastle boss repeatedly shifted Hall across to cover. Livramento subsequently earned his place in Tuchel's squad, while Djed Spence—a right-footed player—was selected as backup to Nico O'Reilly on the left flank.

The circumstances surrounding his omission have clearly rankled with Hall, who believes these factors played a part in his exclusion from the Three Lions squad.

No Rift, Says Newcastle

Newcastle have moved quickly to quash suggestions of any breakdown between Hall and Howe. The club insists there is no falling out between manager and player, a position corroborated by The Telegraph's Northern Football correspondent Luke Edwards.

Edwards highlighted on X that Hall remains extremely grateful for Howe's efforts in developing him into an England international during his time at the north-east club. He also pointed out that both Hall and Howe share the same representation, suggesting that any genuine desire to leave would already be known to the Newcastle hierarchy.
