Mendes Floats Yoro-Balde Swap: Barcelona Unmoved by Audacious Man Utd Exchange Proposal

Jorge Mendes has tabled an unconventional proposal that would see Manchester United's Leny Yoro head to Barcelona in exchange for Alejandro Balde moving in the opposite direction, though the Spanish giants appear distinctly unimpressed by the wheeze.

The super-agent's brazen suggestion comes as several Premier League heavyweights circle the Barcelona left-back. Manchester United, Manchester City, and Aston Villa have all made enquiries about Balde's availability, with his pace and dynamism catching the eye of England's elite.

Balde, 22, has graduated through Barcelona's academy and cemented himself as a fixture in their first-team setup following their LaLiga title triumph last season. However, the club harbour no appetite for selling their academy product, and Balde himself has shown zero inclination to abandon Camp Nou.

That said, Barcelona could theoretically be swayed should a club table a genuinely eye-watering sum and Balde personally express a desire to move—but both conditions would need to materialise simultaneously.

Mendes' proposal pairs Balde's departure with the arrival of Yoro, the 20-year-old centre-back Manchester United recruited from Lille for £58.9 million during summer 2024. The agent evidently views the exchange as a means to resurrect Yoro's stalled United career while positioning Balde for a Premier League platform.

Yet Barcelona remain decidedly sceptical. The fundamental issue is positional: Yoro operates as a centre-back whilst Balde plays left-back, leaving the Catalan outfit questioning how such a swap would integrate into their existing architecture.

Fabrizio Romano has previously dismissed any notion that Barcelona might sell Balde. The transfer specialist stated earlier this month that Barcelona view the young left-back as integral to their long-term project, convinced he retains significant untapped potential. Romano added that United have already bolstered that flank with the acquisition of Patrick Dorgu, and that as matters stand, no formal negotiations between the clubs have commenced.

United's summer blueprint involves hunting for a left winger and midfield reinforcements whilst assessing their defensive options, but Balde remains firmly off the table.
