Romano Pours Cold Water on Mbappe Exit Speculation

The rumour mill has been working overtime at Real Madrid, with whispers of discord between Kylian Mbappe and the club gaining traction as another season threatens to slip away without silverware. Suggestions of a fractured relationship between the French forward and Vinicius Junior have done the rounds in Spanish media circles, with some questioning whether the pair can genuinely function together on the pitch.

Recent weeks have only added fuel to the fire. The Athletic reported that Mbappe was involved in a heated exchange with coaching staff during a training session ahead of the Real Betis clash on April 24, whilst eyebrows were raised when the 27-year-old jetted off to Italy during his hamstring recovery.

Yet transfer authority Fabrizio Romano has moved swiftly to bin off the more sensational speculation. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano acknowledged that the current atmosphere between Mbappe and Madrid is decidedly frosty, but he was adamant that exit talk is wide of the mark.

"For sure, it's not the best moment between Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid," Romano explained. "That's a reality. It's not the best moment, obviously, to see a player like Kylian Mbappe on holiday while the team is struggling is something that is showing probably the moment, but at the same time, let's not exaggerate."

He went on to pour cold water on the more inflammatory claims circulating. "Let's not say that the relationship between Real Madrid and Mbappe is broken. Let's not say that between Mbappe and Real Madrid is over. Let's not even mention that Real Madrid are considering Mbappe exit in the summer. There is nothing about. Nothing at all."

Romano painted a broader picture of difficulties at the Spanish capital club rather than singling out the striker. "It's a complicated moment for Real Madrid, but it's not only Mbappe. There are many complicated situations at Real Madrid."

Since arriving at the Bernabeu as a free agent in the summer of 2024 following his PSG departure, Mbappe has amassed 85 goals and 11 assists across 100 appearances in all competitions.

The dressing room tensions extend beyond Mbappe's situation. Left-back Alvaro Carreras was involved in a training ground row with Antonio Rudiger, though the matter has since been resolved. Carreras released a statement via Instagram addressing the incident, stating: "My commitment to this club and to the coaches I've had has been unwavering since day one, and it will continue to be so. Since I returned, I have always worked with the highest level of professionalism, respect, and dedication."

He continued: "I have fought very hard to fulfil my dream of returning home. Regarding the incident with a teammate, it was an isolated matter without importance that has already been resolved. My relationship with the entire team is very good. ¡Hala Madrid!"
